All it takes is a quiet SHIFT

I was working on a client this week, addressing some consistent pain that has been limiting his work, ability to be present with his kids on a summer trip, and has been requiring a lot of time to correct.
That's what happens, we hush the warning signs until it's present enough to force us to stop.We start making changes to overcorrect, and then they don't seem to work. Immediately, and like normal humans, we think, "what's wrong with me?" The chase to solve the pain and the problem continues.
I've been reading Brene Brown's, "The Gift of Imperfection", and it's been an eye-opener. Believe it or not, the guideposts she offers to build steady resilience have made an impact even in the physical work I do of trying to "fix" a problem. It's creating a habit change for me. What if we stop treating from a "problem" lens and apply the "solution" filter? Seems easy enough, but I'm here to tell you, the human brain wants to find and magnify all the ways things aren't working for us.
That's where our work together is different. All it takes sometimes to see a new way is a shift in position. In my work, that's a different position working on you, a client's arm above the table instead of by the side, or asking you to participate in the work with some movement. TADA... your body experiences it in a whole different way, and we create CHANGE.
In the same way, when all I can see are the ways things aren't adding up around me, usually I need to pause and assess the REALITY. How good is life really? We can call this gratitude, joy, appreciation, or many different names. And we each have our own ways of tapping into those feelings when all seems lost.
Life's challenges and our own pain too often keep us from experiencing the joy that is possible with presence and truly showing up.
If Monday is less about possibility and more about overwhelm right now or all the To-do's on the list,
I encourage you to PAUSE.
Start with your breath.
Pay attention.
Tap into your little 5 year old self and get curious.Start asking questions, about the people around you and this life you've built?
More often than not, this small shift will give you guidance to start from a new place.
Bring that energy into your week. You and everyone around you will be better for it.
